- Great (Pied) Hornbill’s
- Rhino (abbrv) Hornbill’s
- Helmeted Hornbill’s
- Possible (need to verify) Wreathed hornbill’s (These look similar to Plain-Pouched Hornbill’s)
- and… Pig Tailed Macaques

Anyway, you can see the photo’s on Flickr if you can’t make it there… I doubt I’ll be there either!
Here’s the first image: a favorite of mine. I shot this in a hot air balloon several thousand feet in the air, looking down at some water in the Mamouth Lakes Area a little over a year ago.

The next image I’ve posted recently already. I shot this around 3 weeks ago while in the Los Padres Forest looking for something else!

Cheers!

Borneo Cayman , originally uploaded by Global-Trekker .
A Cayman rests on a tree’s trunk in the rain forest of Borneo, along the river.
About this shot: it’s nothing spectacular. It’s actually got much less detail than I would prefer but in reviewing these shots, I realized I’ve learned so much in such a short span of time. This guy was hanging out along the river bank when I shot him. These guys move pretty fast, I had more shots come out blurred that I care for… of course, a faster shutter and higher ISO could have changed that… now I’ll just have to go re-shoot these I suppose!

February is the time of year to spy upon Eagles in the Carson Valley, just south of Carson City, Nevada (USA). I’m adding this to my list of things to do when I get bored or want to do something quasi-local. I found out about them through a conversation with a co-worker but the icenine photography website (photography by Rich Cooke) has some information about it that you can read about if you click here.

Aaah, fresh meat… , originally uploaded by Harpagornis .
Tiger Beetles are really ferocious insects and their claws are nothing to laugh about. I am often thinking what would happen if they grew up to human size… run for your life! *G*
This is another test shot with the new Tamron Macro. I think it will need some time to master this awesome lens. ;o)

Dumpster Diver , originally uploaded by Global-Trekker .
I took this shot as part of a series of test shots I was doing near my house, after the latest firmware upgrades from Canon for the EOS-1D Mark III. This guy was hanging out diving for garbage at the nearby school so I focused on him to test the AI Servo functionality. The lighting was overcast and poor even at mid day and so I had to bump the ISO up to 6400 in order to get the fast shutter that I wanted… anyway, this came out pretty grainey but I love the “feel” it has, like a water color… as for the Mark III and it’s performance, I’m not rendering a verdict just yet. Am I happy about the latest news that Canon is offering European customers an extended warranty (out to 2 years now) for free and they don’t have plans to do this for US customer? Let’s just say I’d be a lot happier if I was also getting that same “promotional” benefit.
- Includes the following new features that were frequently requested by customers.
- Direct selection of AF points by the Multi-controller is added to C.Fn III-9.
- Alternate access to Exposure compensation is added to C.Fn IV-3.
- With the camera’s External Speedlite control menu, Flash function settings can be used to set the Wireless setting and Zoom.
- Improves the stability of AF accuracy in AI servo AF when shooting extremely low-contrast subjects.

Dedicated to the maker’s of “Spy Hunter 3″ software , originally uploaded by Global-Trekker .
I shot this snake in the river last weekend, up in the Los Padres Forest, Ojai, California. I also got a virus this weekend and Spy Hunter 3 is software that Google said would take care of my VirtuMonde.dll virus. $29.99 later I found out it didn’t and still had to eradicate the problem…
I think this is a common Garter snake but can’t be certain… I had to set the shutter to 1/1000 sec. to get the toungue.

Yosemite IR (1) , originally uploaded by Global-Trekker .
Playing with IR, use of the Singh-Ray IR filter on the Mark III at Yosemite. I like this shot but it’s a bit “grainy” but I love the light bouncing off the rocks…
